The School of Nursing

With a tradition of excellence that is over 75 years old, Queen’s School of Nursing is committed to promoting person-centered health care, patient engagement, and advancing nursing research, education and practice. Emphasizing an interprofessional approach to health education, our philosophy is that exemplary nursing practice is built upon the foundational blocks of both the sciences and arts. We’re committed to empowering and supporting our graduates to be health leaders, researchers, advocates and scientists.

The School’s research mission is to enhance the health and well-being of communities everywhere, through research, research education and the translation of new knowledge into practice. Our nurse scientists and health researchers promote improved outcomes (individual, provider and system) and advance effectiveness and efficiency in within health systems.

There are three distinct and wonderful programs within the School:

  • The Baccalaureate of Nursing Science degree program has two tracks – four year and two year (advanced standing track), which qualifies graduates, after passing their professional certification exam, to be designated as Registered Nurses.
  • Graduate Nursing Programs include the Master of Nursing Science (MNSc), Master of Nursing (Primary Health Care Nurse Practitioner), and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Nursing degrees, as well as a Primary Healthcare Nurse Practitioner Diploma. All programs are geared to help build graduates clinical and research capacity while preparing them to be leaders in their areas of specialty.
  • Health Quality interprofessional health education programs are open to all health and health-related professions. The Master of Science (Healthcare Quality) and Doctor of Philosophy in Health Quality programs prepare individuals to link theoretical foundations of quality, risk and safety with practical applications in healthcare settings, and to develop expertise enabling individuals to assume leadership roles to promote excellence.
