Surgical Skills & Technology Elective Program (SSTEP)

The Surgical Skills & Technology Elective Program (SSTEP) is a week-long, intensive, skill-focused course that prepares second year medical students to enter Clerkship. Over the course of the week, students improve their basic competencies (including scrubbing-in, suturing, and catheterization), and are exposed to specialty-specific skills (including obstetrics/gynecology, orthopedics, urology, and general surgery), all under the direct supervision of resident and attending physicians.

This year, SSTEP has partnered with the Perk Lab, a computer-science research group focused on the design and validation of medical training tools, bringing the latest in technology to the classroom. The program strives to not only foster competence and understanding but also confidence in its graduates as they start their clinical training.
