Formula SAE

The Queen’s University Formula SAE Design and Race Team was founded in 1993 and has since grown to a team of 40 members across multiple faculties and disciplines. The team designs and manufactures a formula style racecar to compete in the Formula SAE series. Operating like their industry counterparts, team members are responsible for the project management, finances, safety, and external relations, in addition to the vehicle engineering. With over 500 schools and 9 official competitions, the FSAE series is the largest student engineering competition in the world.

Formula SAE teams design, build, and compete with a new vehicle each year. Queen’s team members contribute 15,000 hours per season to the development of the vehicle. As such, team members gain a wide range of industry applicable skills in the fields of CAD, CNC and manual machining, vehicle dynamics, engine development and countless other skills not available in a class room setting. Recognized as a significant design competition by many large employers, team alumni have gone on to work in many industries and companies, including Ford, General Motors, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, Magna, and Multimatic. Donating not only improves the team’s overall capabilities but equally gives students more opportunities to develop industry related skills they will apply for the rest of their lives.
