The Terrie Easter Sheen Graduate Award

When we think of the Department of Gender Studies (previously the Department of Women’s Studies) at Queen’s, the first person we think of is Terrie Easter Sheen. For 35 years, Terrie was the central pillar of the department, supporting its growth from a single course to a full and lively department. During her time at Queen’s, Terrie has been the consistent welcoming face of Gender Studies, and has profoundly impacted students, staff, faculty and visitors to the Department.

Many people from around campus and the wider Kingston community know Terrie to be an enthusiastic, kind, and warm personality with streaks of colourful flare. She is a talented musician and artist and a passionate advocate for social justice. Terrie is an avid leader in the fight against many forms of oppression including sexism, racism, homophobia, transphobia, and ableism, and is a stalwart of the Kingston Queer community.

We are delighted to be establishing a named graduate award in honour of Terrie - it is a fitting celebration of her outstanding contributions to the University and her support of graduate students in Gender Studies. This award also holds special meaning as Terrie took particular joy in running the student awards event each year.

Your gift will go towards establishing a graduate award for students in the Department of Gender Studies. In the case that the $12,500 funding minimum is not met, all donations will be transferred to the Gender Studies Gift Fund, which is used at the discretion of the Department Head.

Thank you for your support!
