The Humayma Excavation Project

Donate to The Humayma Excavation Project

The archaeological site of Humayma is located in the northwest corner of the Hisma Desert approximately 80 km south of Petra and 80 km north of Aqaba. Today it can be reached by a 20-minute car or bus excursion off of the Desert Highway. In ancient times the site was located on the ancient King’s Highway, rebuilt in the early second century AD as the Via Nova Traiana.

The site of Humayma has been the focus of intensive archaeological work for more than three decades.

At the discretion of the Project Director, donations support archaeologists and Classics students with the excavation and analysis of Humayma (ancient Hawara), a Nabataean town and Roman fort on an ancient caravan route in what is now a Jordanian desert, in addition to the preparation of the final report volumes.
