Established in 2010, the QELC operates all year round to provide free legal services to seniors in southeastern Ontario who would otherwise have difficulty affording legal counsel.

In addition to serving clients, the QELC presents public legal education seminars to community and professional groups on issues related to aging. The QELC seeks to provide Queen’s Law students with professional development experience in a growing and socially relevant area of law while instilling them with the values of community service and the pro bono tradition.

For student caseworkers, work at the QELC is part of a two-semester credit course that also includes assignments and a weekly class. The QELC also employs one student caseworker for the summer months. This provides students with the opportunity to have a more intensive work experience and ensures continuity of client service. Student caseworkers and volunteers complete their work under the supervision of the Director and Review Counsel.
