The David Allgood Professorship in Business Law is an initiative by alumni and friends to establish a Professorship in honour of Law'74 grad David Allgood's contributions and leadership.

David has contributed significantly to Queen’s and the Faculty of Law over the years, including teaching and mentoring our students and serving on the Law Dean’s Council from 2006 to 2012, including four years as Chair. David remains on the Council in the position of Past Chair. The Council plays a key role in the engagement of alumni in the life of the school. Members also take a lead role in fundraising for the school and advising the Dean on changes in the legal profession and the corresponding impact on legal education.

In addition to David’s leadership contributions to Queen’s, he is Vice-Chair of the Association of Corporate Counsel, immediate past Chair of the Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital, Co-Chair of Pro Bono Law Ontario, and a Founder of Legal Leaders of Diversity.

To recognize David’s many contributions to the Faculty over the years and his leadership in the profession, alumni and friends joined together to launch a fundraising campaign to establish a Professorship in Business Law in his honour.

Queen’s Law is the only major law school in Canada that does not yet have a funded Chair or Professorship. The establishment of the “David Allgood Professorship in Business Law” is a strategic priority for the Faculty and is considered one of the most important philanthropic contributions to the school since it was founded in 1957.

The Allgood Professorship would provide key leadership for our business law program, teaching a variety of business law courses and enhancing our graduate program by providing supervision and research collaboration opportunities for the many talented applicants to our LLM and PhD programs at Queen’s Law.
