Sc'94s

As we approach our 30-year reunion in 2024, we hope you'll agree that it's a good time for Sci'94 to make a special effort to give back to Queen's and help future generations of Smith Engineering students reach their goals. With the cost of higher education increasing every year (Smith Engineering tuition was over $13,000 this year!) we propose the establishment and funding of a Science ‘94 Award.

To enable this fund to make a real impact, our goal is to raise $100,000 in time for our 30-year reunion i.e. over the next two years.

This sum would allow for establishment of a fund that would provide the awards to the applicants who best meet the following criteria:

•Upper year (entering Year 3 or 4) student with financial need who has demonstrated leadership, a high level of involvement in extra-curricular life, and an overall positive contribution to Smith Engineering during their time at Queen's.
•Income to support two significant awards per year, each of $2,000.
•At least one of the two awards each year is to be awarded to a female student.
•Each recipient of a Science ‘94 Award would also be offered Honorary Sc'94 Class Membership and be invited to participate in future Sc'94 activities.

To raise the capital to establish the fund, the goal is aggressive but attainable…we need 200 of us to commit to the following:

•Make a gift in 2022 of $250 and another $250 gift in 2023; note that all gifts are tax deductible.

You may be wondering about the Sc'94 Legacy Fund, which was established by our Class in 2008. It has a value of ~ $15,000 but sits within the overall Queen's endowment and our Class is not associated with any cashflow it creates. Transferring its funds to this new Sc'94 Award is not allowed per its Terms of Reference established at its inception.

Charitable giving involves making very personal decisions, driven by personal priorities and in consideration of each individual's circumstances. We hope that after careful thought, you will join your permanent year exec, each of whom has decided to participate in this funding drive
